Components:

(1) 1-Chloro-2-methylpropane, C4H9Cl; [513-36-0] NIST WebBook
(2) Water, H2O; [7732-18-5] NIST WebBook

Original Measurements

Variables:

Ambient temperature: 286 K

Prepared by:

A.L. Horvath

Method/Apparatus/Procedure:

1-Chloro-2-methylpropane was added gradually from a pipette to 100 cm3 water in a sample container with continuous stirring and shaking in an oil bath. The appearance of the first cloud (turbidity) indicated the saturation of the solution. The solubility was calculated from the volume of the 1-chloro-2-methylpropane added to a known quantity of water present.

Source and Purity of Materials:
  1. E. Merck, Darmstadt, further purified before use.
  2. Distilled (compiler).
Estimated Errors:

Ambient temperature: ±0.5 K (compiler).
Mass concentration (m/v) (1): Not specified.

Experimental Values:
T (°C) w1 x1 100w1M1-1 (mol/g)
