Components:

(1) Copper formate, Cu(CHO2)2; [544-19-4] NIST WebBook
(2) Water, H2O; [7732-18-5] NIST WebBook

Original Measurements

Calame, P.; Z. Phys. Chem. 27U, 401 (1898).

Variables:

Ambient temperature: -0.76 - -0.23 °C

Prepared by:

Chr. Balarew

Method/Apparatus/Procedure:

Freezing point determinations were made with a Beckmann apparatus having a thermometer graduated in 0.01 °C. The copper content was determined gravimetrically.

Source and Purity of Materials:
  1. Kahlbaum or Merck reagents were used.
Estimated Errors:

Ambient temperature: ±0.01°C.

Experimental Values:
Freezing points of the Cu(CHO2)2-H2O system.
T (°C) 100w1 m1 (mol/kg)a Phase (s)
-7.60 x 10-1 3.72 2.52 x 10-1 Ice
-4.17 x 10-1 1.9 1.26 x 10-1 Ice
-2.30 x 10-1 9.6 x 10-1 6.3 x 10-2 Ice
