Volume 77. Nitroalkanes with Water or Organic Solvents: Binary and Multicomponent Systems, p 33

Original Measurements

Komarova. E. G.; Kogan, V. B.; Zh. Prikl. Khim. 37, 1776-86 (1964).

Variables:

Temperature: 293 K

Prepared by:

V.P. Sazonov

Method/Apparatus/Procedure:

The analytical method was used. A mixture of (1) and (2) was placed in a thermostated cell and stirred for an hour. The compositions of the phases were determined by gas chromatography.

Source and Purity of Materials:
  1. Distilled in 1.2 m packed fractionating column; b. p. = 114° C; n(20°C,D) = 1.3920; d(20°C,4°C) = 1.0520.
  2. Distilled in 1.2 m packed fractionating column; b. p. = 98.4°C; n(20°C,D) = 1.3877.

Nitroethane with Heptane

Components:

(1) Nitroethane, $\ce{ C2H5NO2 }$; [79-24-3] NIST WebBook
(2) Heptane, $\ce{ C7H16 }$; [142-82-5] NIST WebBook

Experimental Values:

The mole fraction of nitroethane in the (2)-rich phase at equilibrium at 293.2 K was reported to be x1 = 0.1711, corresponding 100 w1 = 11.17 (compiler).
The mole fraction of nitroethane in the (1)-rich phase at equilibrium at 293.2 K was reported to be x1 = 0.8695, corresponding 100 w1 = 80.23 (compiler).
