Four papers are available for the system polycarbonate-methane. Pope et al.4 studied history effects on sorption isotherms (unconditioned film, the film conditioned by exposure to high pressure carbon dioxide gas and exchange-conditioned by subsequent sweeping CO2 by methane) and showed the significant changes in the isotherm's shape caused by the pretreatment of a sample. On the other hand, the other papers1-3 reported the dual mode sorption parameters but did not study the effects of different pretreatment of the films on the parameters of the sorption model.
Below the solubility coefficients at 308 K are shown based on the dual mode sorption parameters1-3 and by the initial slope of the isotherms.4
In spite of possible different film history, the solubility coefficients lie within fairly narrow limits. Accordingly, sorption isotherms are given for the samples with different pretreatment.
These data indicate a possible range of variation of the solubility of CH4 in polycarbonate at different pressures.
